What is the ISO 27000 family?

The ISO/IEC 27000 family is a coordinated set of information security standards organized into six groups: core (27000, 27001, 27002), ISMS guidance (27003–27008), governance (27013–27016), sector-specific, privacy (27701), and security operations. ISO 27001 is the standard organizations certify against, while the rest of the family supports implementation, measurement, and audit.

Do I need all the ISO 27000 standards?

No. Only the core group (ISO 27000, 27001, and 27002) is essential for certification. The ISMS guidance standards (27003–27008) are the practical toolkit for implementation, risk assessment, and audit preparation. Everything else — sector-specific, privacy, governance, and security operations standards — is optional depending on your industry and organizational maturity.
